SOA reality check

Research firm Saugatuck Technology has released an "SOA Reality Check" that describes how and to which degree SOA is adopted in the field.

Senior IT executives and IT architects at 40 companies were interviewed for the study. The report found most firms deploying SOA are focused either on early-stage planning, and/or trial deployment around legacy application integration.

The report says the key long-term driver of SOA adoption is cost reduction.

Meehan sums it up

Michael Meehan of SearchWebServices has chosen his top four SOA and Web services stories of 2006 and his conclusions are encouraging for SOA.

"SOA works. Lost amid the vendor, analyst and media spin on SOA has been the fact that IT shops are actually doing it," he states.

"It has gone way beyond theory. Solid corporate citizens have begun to put an emphasis on technical architecture."
