IBM deploys healthcare system

IBM has deployed stream computing software called IBM System S to enable healthcare practitioners to perform analytics to detect physiological changes in premature infants at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, states IT World Canada.

The software is used to detect life-threatening conditions and to collect physiological data streams like respiration, heart rate and body temperature.

Nagui Halim, chief scientist for stream computing with Armonk, a New York-based company, says: “The idea is to allow the application developers to think about processing information in this progressive manner.”

SAS releases BI solution

SAS Institute has unveiled SAS Data Integration for healthcare, a business intelligence system for the Canadian healthcare industry based on the SAS Business Analytics Framework, says IT World Canada.

The data integration and reporting system automates information aggregation and consolidates data from hospitals, regions and local health integration networks.

Pat Finerty, VP of alliances and business development for SAS Canada, says: “While calculations on financial or efficiency data are relatively straightforward in a business setting, medical calculations are very complex, he explained.”
