Mellanox sets sights on CopperGate
InfiniBand vendor Mellanox seems set to buy home digital media networking company CopperGate for about $200 million, according to The Register.
InfiniBand is a high-speed and low-latency interconnect that has found favour in supercomputing and other high-performance computing environments.
Mellanox is an Israeli company, founded in 2005, that designs Infiniband switches and host channel adaptors, and then contracts out their manufacture.
Riverbed unveils virtualised WAN management
Riverbed Technology is offering managed service providers an easier way to manage multiple sets of Riverbed's Steelhead WAN optimisation appliances, states eWeek.
Riverbed unveiled its Central Management Console-Virtualised Edition, or CMC-VE, enabling MSPs to centrally manage and scale multiple Steelhead appliances for their customers from a single physical machine, eliminating the need for additional hardware.
“They can support multiple deployments of Steelheads from a single console,” Karin Gerster, Riverbed director of product management for verticals, said in an interview.
O2 offers mobile mapping
O2 has signed a deal with mapping service Telmap which will enable the mobile network giant to offer customers GPS-enabled devices, rich mapping and personal navigation services, says Computing.co.uk.
The mobile operator said it had worked with Telmap to optimise the application for use on its network and will be providing first level customer and billing support.
Key features include in-car 3D maps with text-to-speech technology, traffic alerts with alternative route options, and turn by turn directions while walking.
