Memco Software, a leading provider of information security software, has announced a new release of its network protection and monitoring product, SessionWall-3 Release 4.0.
Release 4.0 provides surveillance, detection and blocking by specific individual user IDs, as compared to only IP addresses, MAC addresses or system IDs. This release also takes the mystery out of tracking remote access users by identifying them by their remote access IDs. The combination of these capabilities enhances the ability to collect the forensic evidence associated with specific abuses or intrusions and saves time trying to gather this information from various distributed logs.
SessionWall-3 is known for its quick installation, ease of use and advanced security. Release 4.0 marks a further milestone in the intrusion detection market by adding the ability to track, block and report network intrusions by Windows NT IDs and Remote Access Server (RAS) IDs, in addition to the traditional IP address. Release 4.0 also expands SessionWall`s response capabilities to stopping network denial of service attacks and other intrusions by reconfiguring Cisco routers.
"Using tools that only identify usage by network addresses has made it difficult to identify specific users or develop network usage policies that address a specific user or group of users," says Inana Nkanza, manager of local Memco distributor Software Futures` security business unit. "As a result the ability to track and deny access to specific NT users is important to companies which want to stop and deter network intrusions and abuse."
As with versions, SessionWall-3 Release 4.0 features comprehensive intrusion and attack detection, including the ability to recognise hacking patterns and signatures and identify anomalies, identify and track viruses in the internal network, identify and block malicious Java/ActiveX applets, and identify and block unapproved URL usage. In addition, it provides numerous responses including unobtrusive blocking, sending pager alerts and logging of all desired information in a secure signed database. This log not only includes network session information, but also contains e-mail content, e-mail attachment content and URL content. This content can easily be viewed in its native presentation format.
