Mercury Interactive introduces testing, performance management support for Siebel 7

Johannesburg, 05 Nov 2001

Mercury Interactive Corporation, the leading provider of enterprise testing and performance management solutions, today announced its support for Siebel 7, the seventh major release of Siebel eBusiness Applications from Siebel Systems Inc.

With customised versions of LoadRunner and Topaz, Siebel and Mercury Interactive customers can test, verify and manage the performance of their Siebel eBusiness Applications to ensure a smooth roll-out and top performance after deployment.

In addition, Mercury Interactive will submit the integration of LoadRunner, the industry-standard load testing solution, with Siebel 7 for validation by Siebel Systems. Integrations that meet the rigorous standards of Siebel Systems` testing criteria are validated and documented by the Siebel Alliance Program. LoadRunner was the first load testing tool to receive Siebel validation for its integration with Siebel 6.

"It`s critical for organisations to engage in proactive performance testing and ongoing monitoring of their mission-critical CRM applications," says Steve Bonadio, senior program director, Meta Group. "The ability to test for optimal performance and scalability can accelerate deployment cycles, facilitate detection of potential bottlenecks, and mitigate overall application implementation risk."

"Siebel applications are highly scalable and flexible, however, making changes to any customer-facing system creates risk," said Jim Hare, director strategic alliances at Mercury Interactive. "Mercury Interactive`s long-standing relationship with Siebel gives our joint customers the tools they need to ensure that key business processes and will work as expected as the user load increases, and ongoing performance management to ensure that the system continues to perform well after deployment."

Today`s enterprise is a combination of complex network, hardware and software components, with both pre-deployment testing and post-deployment application management requirements. When implementing customer-facing applications like Siebel eBusiness Applications, organizations must ensure the application is configured to fit their specific scalability and performance requirements. Mercury Interactive`s tools can test and monitor business-critical applications -including private intranets, extranets and the Internet - to predict system performance, test scalability, verify functionality, interoperability and application security.

A customised version of LoadRunner can help to predict system behaviour and performance under a real-life user load. LoadRunner exercises the application by emulating the traffic of real users. Each of these users drives the application with real transactions while LoadRunner measures response times, network delays and both server and application performance. To help isolate performance bottlenecks and fine-tune performance within the application infrastructure, LoadRunner provides customized integrated real-time monitors that capture and display performance data from within the various tiers of the system during the load test. These capabilities enable customers to minimize test cycles, optimise performance and reduce overall IT costs.

Once the Siebel solution is rolled out on the production system, customers are able to leverage their existing test scripts with Topaz, Mercury Interactive`s performance management tool, to monitor the performance of their Siebel eBusiness Applications, receive alerts when issues arise, identify problems and diagnose their cause. It is the only solution that measures the end-user experience 24x7 and correlates performance issues to their root cause in the Web infrastructure-inside and outside the firewall and in the application. As a result, organisations can ensure users are receiving solid performance and quickly resolve any infrastructure problems.

Mercury Interactive and Siebel Systems work closely together through various programs to ensure that customers have robust and seamlessly integrated solutions. In fact, Siebel Systems` worldwide testing groups use Mercury Interactive`s tools set to test functionality and performance of new product releases before they are delivered to customers.

Hundreds of Siebel customers are using Mercury Interactive testing and performance management tools including Cigna, Bank of America, Farmers Insurance, GMAC Insurance, Microsoft, Motorola, Peregrine Systems, Sprint, Sun Microsystems, 3M and Unisys.

In addition to working with Siebel, Mercury Interactive partners with leading ERP/CRM vendors, such as PeopleSoft, SAP, and Oracle to develop customized performance management solutions for the leading packaged applications. These solutions enable customers to accelerate deployment, identify and isolate scalability problems, optimise performance, and ensure a positive end-user experience at all times.
