META Group analysts to present keynote at South African Oracle User Group`s conference

Johannesburg, 16 Sep 2004

How do CIOs redefine themselves and their roles? What does the future hold?

Willie Appel, vice-president international, executive services, META Group, will address these questions and more during his keynote presentation, "The CIO Agenda for 2005 - Strategy, global growth and technology drivers", at the South African Oracle User Group`s (SAOUG) Conference, from 17 to 19 October at Sun City.

Appel`s presentation will discuss the CIO`s future agenda. He says: "CIOs must become advocates for the gradual increase of IT budgets to benefit from the imminent economic recovery. Though IT budgets were slashed in recent years, most forward-looking business leaders recognise the pivotal role information and technology continue to play in their organisations. Today`s CIO has a role that transcends purely operational and tactical (functional) issues and must focus on the strategic themes that can make or break their business. CIOs are business leaders, with responsibilities encompassing corporate and IT governance, business process management, customer profitability and shareholder value."

In addition, Johan Jacobs, senior research analyst, enterprise applications and analytics, will deliver a presentation on "The Query Eye for the Business Guy".

Jacobs says: "This discussion will explore the various issues around providing analytics for everybody in the organisations. Organisations which blend analytic architectures to enhance inter/intra-business collaboration will alleviate infrastructure costs. Application package vendors have had a mixed history of success when it comes to delivering analytics for their application packages. To best understand the strengths and weaknesses of embedded/integrated analytics strategy, it is important to highlight the common set of business intelligence (BI) capabilities provided as they span the varying ERP and CRM subsystems."

In addition to the keynote, Appel and Jacobs will participate in round table discussions as well as the SAOUG `Espresso with an Expert` initiative, conference delegates will have exclusive access to engage in private sessions, that allow you to chat casually for a period of 50 minutes. To make appointments on-site, please contact the SAOUG stand to register, although online registration is recommended.

The SAOUG Conference in 2004 promises to be the most intensive information gathering session for Oracle Users in Africa. Focusing on applications as well as technology, this year`s conference has a lot to say. Over the two days at Sun City, you will interact with other Oracle users and vendors as well as some of the top experts of today. The Linux train continues to drive with Oracle`s focus being on Linux Enterprise Now!
