Metastorm, distributed locally by alliance partner DVT, has released Metastorm BPM Version 7, thereby expanding its business process management (BPM) suite`s capabilities.
This latest version is characterised by stronger integration capabilities for managing and improving system-based processes and leveraging legacy systems; enhanced visibility and process collaboration; extended event management and business activity monitoring (BAM) capabilities; and improved usability and visibility through the extension of a common user interface across all components of the suite.
"The release of Metastorm BPM Version 7 is a key product innovation milestone for Metastorm," says Trevor van Rensburg, products director at DVT Gauteng. "It delivers on the company`s commitments to provide a single BPM suite for managing and improving human-centric and system-based processes, using a common user interface that spans all roundtrip process lifecycle capabilities. Combined, the result is maximised user productivity and improved visibility at all levels of the process."
Metastorm Integration Manager, added to the Metastorm suite with the acquisition of CommerceQuest, enables robust integration capabilities for deploying, managing and improving system-based processes and leveraging legacy systems. It enables older legacy and mainframe-based capabilities to interoperate in new service-oriented architecture (SOA) environments.
Now fully integrated with the rest of the Metastorm BPM suite, Metastorm Integration Manager is accessible through the same user interface and completely interoperable with Metastorm`s reporting, analysis and simulation capabilities; giving users visibility across an entire process and allowing them to analyse and improve all aspects the process.
"Usability and visibility of the Metastorm BPM suite has been improved in Version 7 through the extension of a common user interface across all components," Van Rensburg says. "This allows users to manage and control the entire roundtrip process lifecycle through a single product set and interface, with a common look and feel across key functions, including process design, execution, monitoring, analysis and simulation."
The Metastorm BPM Process Client for SharePoint available in Version 7 provides a packaged set of Web parts that allow users to monitor, participate in and collaborate on processes deployed on the Metastorm BPM platform through Microsoft SharePoint Portal.
Using this feature, individual viewpoints into Metastorm BPM can be configured, creating a dashboard into key analytics and process activities and empowering users to take action on process items as needed.
"The SharePoint Process Client adds to Metastorm`s existing portfolio of user interface options that include a zero-download Web-based dashboard, a Microsoft Outlook Process Client for connected and offline access and a Blackberry Process Client for mobile access," Van Rensburg explains.
Extended event management and business activity monitoring (BAM) capabilities now inherent in Metastorm BPM Version 7 enable organisations to easily push events and alerts out to other systems and receive events from other applications to trigger appropriate and timely action.
Metastorm has also enabled process data to be published and accessed via RSS lists, thus enabling users to get notification of process events and to access the Metastorm BPM action items using their preferred RSS aggregator.
Van Rensburg concludes: "These enhanced BAM capabilities provide the foundation for future enhancements, including the release of a graphical event manager planned for release at the end of 2006. Metastorm BPM Version 7 provides an overall framework for continued innovation, with the SharePoint interface and event management component key to future enhancements in content control, collaboration and role-based analytics."
