Metastorm, CommerceQuest merge to form BPM leader

Johannesburg, 27 Oct 2005

Metastorm, a provider of business process management (BPM) software, and CommerceQuest, a supplier of scalable integration and BPM solutions, have merged under the Metastorm brand to take the pure-play BPM software market by storm.

This merger creates one of the most comprehensive BPM software suites in the market to support all ranges of business process management initiatives across mid- to large-sized organisations on both Unix and Microsoft platforms.

"The combined entity will provide customers with solutions that result from innovation and market experience, the stability of a larger organisation and the most complete business process management software suite on the market today," says Trevor van Rensburg, products director at DVT, Metastorm`s local Alliance Partner.

"The expanded Metastorm BPM software suite will address all human- and system-based process challenges, regardless of platform, scale, complexity or existing infrastructure. It will also deliver industry solutions for roundtrip process improvement. This powerful combination of two market leaders is expected to create the largest pure-play BPM software provider worldwide, servicing more than 1 200 customers in 41 countries."

A Gartner term, "pure-play" BPM tools must contain the five essential elements as laid down by the independent researcher. These include the presence of an easy-to-use graphical process designer, a runtime process execution engine, powerful agility features for real-time adjustments, robust tools to manage and monitor processes, and rich reporting and measurement tools.

Together, Metastorm and CommerceQuest can allocate more resources for technology innovation, increase market coverage, expand partner collaborations and improve customer support while broadening and strengthening offerings to key vertical markets, such as retail and financial services.

"CommerceQuest has built a strong market presence based on its ability to deliver highly scalable BPM solutions that excel at integrating complex systems and streamlining core business processes," Van Rensburg says. "The combination of Metastorm`s leading market position and human-based BPM offerings, and CommerceQuest`s process-driven, service-oriented integration capabilities will provide customers with a complete solution for all process management challenges."

Bob Farrell will continue to serve as president and CEO of Metastorm, while Mike Forster, current CEO of CommerceQuest, and Michael Zisman, MD of Internet Capital Group and a CommerceQuest board member, will be elected to the Metastorm board. As part of the transaction, Metastorm has secured additional funding from its newly combined investor base.

"Proven process and integration technology, J2EE innovation, high profile distribution channels, complementary industry coverage, and highly skilled resources make CommerceQuest the perfect match for Metastorm," Van Rensburg says. "This merger expands the breadth and depth of Metastorm to meet the complete spectrum of any organisation`s BPM needs."
