Metaware, a division of JSE-listed Connection Group, has been appointed as the sole distributor for the internationally acclaimed Savant Warehouse Management System, which uses the Solomon IV development platform as its core business application.
Metaware has also just completed a R4,5 million deal to install the product at its first South African site - Siltek Distribution Dynamics - the largest distributor in the IT industry.
Designed for the Windows NT operating environment, Savant is the only warehouse management system to be radio frequency based and capable of bar coding. It combines solid business principles and state-of-the-art technology to create a powerful and comprehensive automated warehouse and distribution solution.
Using Savant, a warehouse company can manage and track the movement of inventory from receiving through to shipping. It dramatically cuts warehouse costs by eliminating paper work and costly shipping errors, improving staff productivity and providing accurate real-time inventory levels to all inter company departments.
Terry McClenchy, MD of Metaware, said: "Unlike many systems which require you to adapt your successful business operations to accommodate deficiencies in your software, the Savant Warehouse Management System is specifically designed to provide optimal flexibility and customization for a warehouse environment."
The Savant Warehouse Management System supports the latest in warehouse and supply chain management, including:
cross-docking;
directed put-aways;
replenishment of forward picking locations;
zone management;
zone picking;
cycle counting;
box building;
UCC128 compliant labels;
and automated shipping manifests.
McClenchy added that one of the cost effective benefits of Savant is that it is completely modular, with each module being individually so you can select what you require for your unique warehouse needs, and incorporate additional modules later.
The various modules include system administration, receiving/inventory, quality assurance, order fulfillment, enhanced features, packing, and shipping manifests.
"What makes the system unique is its use of radio frequency scanners and barcode symbologies to provide real-time updates to inventory, purchasing and order processing applications. Every transaction that occurs in the warehouse is time and date stamped, and logged in Savant. This enables the warehouse administrator to quickly resolve queries and improve warehouse operations. Productivity reports can be generated by operator and task type, and trends can be graphically illustrated for productivity analysis," added McClenchy.
