Metrofile Empangeni has been named as runner-up in the Best Service and Retail Industry category of the Zululand Chamber of Business`s Business Excellence 2005 awards. The honour was presented at a gala dinner held at the ZCBF Community Park in Richards Bay on 16 November.
The document management specialist was chosen from the eight nominees selected for that category and came second only to CV Personnel, a company that has been operating in Empangeni for 21 years.
"Metrofile has demonstrated its commitment to the local economy in many ways, including the recent investment in a purpose-built facility, something CV Personnel`s MD Garth McCartney graciously mentioned during his acceptance speech," says Adrian Wilkins, divisional director of Metrofile KwaZulu-Natal. "It is a superb achievement by the Metrofile Empangeni team to secure this second place in a sector that is so competitive."
Awards were also presented to companies for Best Large Business, Best Small Business, Best Health and Welfare Organisation, Best Education and Development Sector, and Best Tourism and Hospitality Industry.
An overall champion is chosen from the winners of each of the six categories, and is presented with the Premium Award for Business Excellence. The format of the awards allows for any business or service institution, irrespective of size or type, to compete on an equal footing with one another.
"The entire Metrofile team in Empangeni deserves credit for securing this award," says Paul Pereira, a solutions consultant at Metrofile Empangeni and a member of the Zululand Chamber of Business. "Making runner-up takes outstanding effort and the team deserves the certificate, floating trophy, engraved plate and the recognition the award brings for their dedication to the province and their commitment to the company."
The panel of judges was made up of prominent and well-qualified experts while 300 business people from around the country attended the event. This year`s award ceremony was highlighted by guest speaker Judge Mervyn King, the former South African Supreme Court Judge and an internationally acknowledged expert on corporate governance.
Recognising the positive impact that business excellence has on the local economy, community and country, the Zululand Chamber of Business began rewarding business superiority in various ways since its inception in 1926.
The chamber is a membership-driven, not-for-profit organisation that aims to foster an environment conducive to the development and growth of business. It facilitates and manages a broad spectrum of development initiatives, matching projects with the necessary funding to ensure they are executed as effectively as possible.
