Metropolis expands its business-to-business offering with SHEafrica.com

Johannesburg, 01 Mar 2000

Metropolis Transactive Holdings, the South African leader in the development of industry focused online business-to-business communities has announced the launch of sheafrica.com (

www.SHEafrica.com

). The site offers up-to-date news on developments within SHE sectors of industry, relevant in-depth articles on various topics, and interprets government safety, health and environmental legislation, all of which is available on the site on a daily basis. This information is archived for future research requirements by the industry.

SHEafrica.com is the most convenient source of technical, operational, product, management and legislative information available to the Safety, Health and Environment industry. This industrial community is structured to serve the needs of SHE role players, H&S representatives, product developers, unions, CEOs, occupational health practitioners, civil engineers, as well as leaders and workers in the industrial, manufacturing and construction arenas. SHEafrica.com creates a SHE where involved parties can interact, and manufacturers and distributors can showcase their products and services in `storefronts` on the site. Suppliers will be able to obtain leads for tenders and possible business opportunities immediately which can be followed up outside of the site, SHEafrica.com will be fully e-commerce enabled by early 2001.

Managing Editor of the site, Lee Furter, previous editor of Safety Management magazine, believes that the site will play an important role in keeping the industry abreast of relevant and useful information while providing a platform for future e-commerce transactions between businesses.

"Safety, Health and Environment plays a significant role in almost every industry from mining and chemicals to manufacturing and transport. The easy access to important information and the eventual streamlining of transactions on the site will enable companies to perform at a higher level which will increase safety and health standards across the board" she says.

The site will soon include discussion forums, offering involved parties the opportunity to address pressing SHE related issues within industries, and facilitating interaction. By posting their SHE meeting agendas on the site, companies will be able to compare strategies and receive comment and from peers and leaders alike.

SHEafrica.com will not only provide the South African community with useful information and transaction capabilities, but will also be accessible to the rest of Africa, a third world continent in need of valuable SHE related information.

Metropolis, local partner to US vertical community leader VerticalNet launched its first six vertical communities in October last year and will increase this offering to twenty (20) by the end of the year. SHEafrica.com adds to Metropolis, current stable of communities which are focused in the laboratory (www.labafrica.com), (www.medafrica.com), chemical (www.chemafrica.com), precision and measurement (www.precisionafrica.com), technology (www.techafrica.com), communications (www.commsafrica.com) and mining (www.miningafrica.com) industries.
