Me&you mobile CEO Brett Howell says the new MVNO could not have hoped for a better start to its launch campaign.

Me&you mobile - the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that went live just over two weeks ago - is launching a "bailout offer" to former customers of Nashua Mobile and Altech Autopage.

For the month of June, the MVNO will offer a 10% discount to customers of the two entities, which are closing their mobile service divisions and selling their subscriber bases.

Similar to the R300 unlimited talk launch offer me&you mobile introduced earlier this month, the latest offer remains valid to the customers who have taken up the offer, for as long as they remain customers of the MVNO.

"Customers can qualify for the offer by uploading a copy of their ID document as well as their latest bill or invoice via the me&you mobile Web site from 1 June. The bill may be no older than three months," explains me&you mobile CEO Brett Howell.

Each successful applicant will receive a promotional voucher code linked to their ID number, which will entitle them to the 10% discount.

Successful applicants may only use their discount codes to purchase one SIM card and package per person and the discount will apply to the value bundle amount purchased on the Web site.

Early rise

Me&you mobile claims to offer the "lowest guaranteed voice call rates in the country". The new mobile player has departed from the 24-month contract model by allowing users to tailor and manage their mobile packages, via an online platform, on a month-to-month basis. The operator is a SIM-only mobile service provider, which means it does not sell handsets.

Although it is still early days, with the service having officially opened to customers on 4 April, Howell says the company exceeded its first two months sales targets in the first week of operation.

"For us it is a clear indication that our product has struck the right note with consumers in the market and that our offering is one that they have been wanting for some time."

Howell says the unlimited voice deal has received the lion's share of attention from new customers, but the MVNO has been "encouraged by the uptake of packages across the full range of voice and data products".

Local analysts are divided on how the market will react to me&you mobile, but concede the MVNO has ruffled the highly competitive segment to an extent.
