MGE systems take to the sea

International power solutions company MGE UPS Systems has supplied its solutions to the world`s largest and most expensive passenger ship, the Queen Mary 2 (QM2).

In a deal worth EUR400 000 (R3.2 million), MGE was tasked with installing all the UPS systems on board, as well as the associated services, says MGE SA MD Rodney Callaghan.

"MGE was involved in the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the UPS solution," says Callaghan, adding that a number of different UPS systems were required to complete the project.

The QM2, which is nearly four-times the length of a football field and as tall as a 23-story building, set off on its maiden voyage in January.

"Nothing but superlatives apply to this liner," says Callaghan. "It is the longest, tallest, widest, most powerful, fastest and most expensive passenger ship of all time."
