MGX has established a business unit to sell, support and implement the complete range of products supplied by iPlanet E-Commerce Solutions, a Sun-Netscape alliance.
Barno Nel, GM of the iPlanet business unit at MGX Enterprise Solutions, says: MGX has established SA`s only dedicated iPlanet business with the goal of dominating the market for the US vendor`s products in the country.
"Our business unit is backed up with a strong team of experienced consultants and developers, and has a number of reference sites live on iPlanet`s e-business software," says Nel. "We have already implemented and are supporting procurement, electronic trading, directory service, and messaging software at South African sites, and will announce our biggest iPlanet deal to date in the coming weeks."
MGX is an iPlanet Enterprise Partner, iPlanet Distribution Partner, and iPlanet Premier Support Partner. This list of accreditations entitles the group to sell and implement the product set at enterprise customer sites, work in partnership with other IT companies on iPlanet implementations, and provide first-line support to iPlanet customers and resellers.
Duncan Peruch, business development manager at iPlanet SA, says the iPlanet software range forms an integral part of SunONE, the Sun Microsystems umbrella architecture for the creation and implementation of Web-based services. MGX, which has resold Sun Microsystems hardware and software for more than three years, has aligned itself with Sun`s vision for networked computing, he adds.
"MGX matches the ideal profile for an iPlanet reseller and integrator. The company has a strong development focus, a solid Java competency, and deep skills in the provision and integration of e-business solutions. It also boasts a complement of skilled iPlanet and Sun engineers," says Peruch.
iPlanet is the largest pure-play Internet and e-commerce software company in the world. It is expected to become a Sun Microsystems business unit during the course of this year, and will reach an annual turnover of more than $1 billion by the end of 2002.
iPlanet focuses on five main product classes:
* Unified user management services, including security and directory tools;
* Applications and integration services;
* Communication and collaboration tools including e-mail, calendar and workflow software;
* Portal services, which allow users to access network-based applications through a browser; and
* Commerce services for business-to-business and business-to-consumer applications.
Says Nel: "We`re putting a particularly strong emphasis on the iPlanet BillerXpert software, which is a strong offering in the Internet bill presentment and payment arena. We also see strong potential in the South African market for the iPlanet Portal Server, iPlanet SellerXpert and iPlanet BuyerXpert."
