Micron acquires UK's Virtensys

Computerworld reports.

Micron plans to use Virtensys' PCIe virtualisation technology to allow centres to share local solid state drive (SSD) storage across multiple servers.

According to eWeek, the deal was more evidence of the increasing momentum in the PCIe card sector.

PCIe card units, which contain a high amount of NAND flash, replace spinning disk drives in specific use cases to bring major performance increases into systems that process a high number of transactions per minute or per second.

The transaction is subject to closing conditions, and is currently anticipated to close by the end of the month, Market Watch notes.

"Virtensys' PCIe-sharing technology has helped change the way centre operators manage and deploy their virtualised I/O resources, and Micron's enterprise PCIe drive delivers market-leading speed, reliability and power efficiency," said Edward Doller, Micron VP and chief memory systems architect.
