Microsoft`s IT Group has chosen the NetIQ AppManager Suite to monitor the performance and availability of its global Windows NT Server deployment. Microsoft will use the suite to help proactively manage its worldwide Windows NT Server infrastructure as well as centrally monitor server applications that run on Windows NT, such as Microsoft Exchange Server, Internet Information Server (IIS) and Microsoft SQL Server.
Microsoft`s needs included the ability to monitor thousands of Windows NT Servers spread across 300 sites as well as manage an e-mail infrastructure that generates over 3,1m e-mails a day.
Reasons cited for the selection of AppManager included depth of monitoring across Windows NT and BackOffice, providing a native Windows NT solution that uses SQL Server as a database and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) as a scripting language, and ease of implementation and customisation.
NetIQ`s AppManager is distributed in South Africa by Server Tools.

"NetIQ`s AppManager helps address these activities, and provides us flexibility in how we customise and implement the monitoring functions."
Dave Terespolsky, Server Tools MD, says Exxhange is one of the most important applications running at Microsoft.
"NetIQ helps ensure the uptime and performance of one of Microsoft`s mission-critical internal applications," says Terespolsky. "AppManager is now the management solution for the largest BackOffice platform in the world."
NetIQ will collaborate with Microsoft on future versions of AppManager. In addition, NetIQ will provide full-time personnel onsite at the Redmond campus to set up a NetIQ lab and assist in the deployment of AppManager.
