Microsoft concludes licensing management road show

Johannesburg, 19 Jan 2001

Following the launch of its License Management Programme during the fourth quarter of last year, a new initiative aimed at assisting the company in its ongoing fight against piracy, Microsoft SA has announced that it has successfully completed a road show, which saw it unveil its new programme to more than 70 resellers in Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town.

The road show was aimed at "bringing clarity" to the spirit and detail of the License Management Programme.

"We were really just spreading the message and making sure that as many resellers as possible fully understand the advantages, details and ramifications of the new programme," said Mark Reynolds, in charge of Microsoft SA`s anti-piracy and legalisation drive.

The License Management Programme is specifically aimed at helping small and medium-sized businesses to gain knowledge and control over software - as well as recognising those companies who are Microsoft software compliant.

Reynolds said a total of 21 channel partners have been appointed by Microsoft as special License Management partners.

Last year the company also provided intensive training during a two day seminar in order to focus on all aspects of licensing, and auditing techniques.

Reynolds said that under the Microsoft License Management Programme users are able to approach an appointed channel partner, who will then conduct a software review by following a series of steps defined by Microsoft, as well as assessing the organisation`s use of Microsoft software.

Businesses which are declared by the License Management partner as compliant are then eligible to apply for Microsoft License Certification, which Microsoft will honour for a period of one year in respect of the assessed PCs and software.
