Microsoft delivers Deepfish

Microsoft has released Deepfish, a mobile browser for Windows Mobile devices that offers mobile users a "desktop-level" browsing experience, reports dailytech.com.

Microsoft's Gary Williman Flake says Deepfish technology captures the full layout of the page and delivers it to the mobile device, in a similar manner to a desktop. It also allows mobile users to view a full page as a thumbnail preview.

The company says Deepfish is available now for download from the Microsoft Live Labs. The browser is compatible with Windows Mobile Smart Phones, or Pocket PCs running Windows Mobile 5.0 or greater.

iPod market to double in three years

New research confirms the media and music player market, dominated by iPod, is the fastest growing segment in the consumer electronics industry. Analysts at iSuppli anticipate this market to double between 2005 and 2010, reports itworld.com.

iSuppli believes unit shipments will rise to 268.6 million units in 2011, expanding annually by 13%, from 128.7 million units in 2005. It expects shipments to reach 216.9 million units during 2007.

Chris Crotty, senior analyst for consumer electronics at iSuppli, says this growth is largely driven by PMP/MP3 players utilising the Internet more than other consumer electronic devices.

New rules for providers

UK VOIP providers will need to supply clearer information on services they provide, according to rules announced yesterday by the UK telecommunications regulator, reports ITWorld.

In future, these providers must clarify whether they permit customers to make calls to services, and disclose whether they provide directory assistance, access to an operator, and whether customers may ask for an itemised calls list.

The regulations take effect from June.
