Microsoft denies XP version 2

CBROnline reports that Brian Valentine, Microsoft`s senior VP of the Windows division, is denying suggestions that the company is readying a second release of its Windows XP desktop operating system.

Following reports that Windows XP`s replacement, codenamed Longhorn, had slipped to a 2005 release date, there have been rumours that Microsoft is preparing a second edition of Windows XP for release in 2003. The speculation intensified this week with the leak of a new Windows desktop operating system build.

Valentine says the company is not preparing a second edition of Windows XP, and feature and function enhancements would be delivered as service packs, rather than a fully-fledged release. [CBROnline]

The new release also has the ability to work with cryptographically protected directories on PocketPC as well as the option to scan databases and files for viruses. If anything out of the ordinary is detected, the suspect code is isolated and marked as infected.
