Microsoft has no piracy issue with Nedcor

Johannesburg, 01 Feb 2002

Following a media report, Microsoft announced today that there is no issue whatsoever relating to software piracy between Microsoft and Nedcor Bank.

In January 2001 the Microsoft anti-piracy team purchased a computer with an illegally loaded operating system from Broker Ridge cc. A settlement agreement related to this incident was subsequently reached between Microsoft and Broker Ridge.

"We believe that the illegally loaded software, which gave rise to Microsoft`s action against Broker Ridge, was not supplied to Broker Ridge by Nedcor Bank as part of the agreement between Nedcor Bank and Broker Ridge. We are confident that Nedcor Bank does not supply unauthorised software to anyone, and that there are no software piracy issues between Microsoft and Nedcor Bank," says Mark Hill, Managing Director, Microsoft Sub-Sahara African Region.
