Microsoft launches integrated innovation

Johannesburg, 18 Mar 2004

Microsoft South Africa has announced the integration of its server products under a new brand name - Windows Server System. Microsoft also announced its Dynamic Systems Initiative, which is aimed at improving the manageability of solutions built on Windows Server System.

Windows Server System is integrated server-infrastructure software that provides functionality businesses need to connect their applications; to build a dependable, secure and manageable IT infrastructure; to increase productivity of developers, IT professionals and information workers and to accomplish all of this with the best value for the business.

"We designed Windows Server System through a process of integrated innovation, ensuring that new capabilities are incorporated into the system, that the servers across the system work well together and that the whole system works seamlessly with the latest advancements in the Microsoft Office System and Visual Studio," says Desmond Nair, product and solutions marketing manager in Microsoft`s server platform division.

Integrated innovation refers to Microsoft`s design principles for products that offer seamless integration and is also forward looking with easier management, simpler deployment and use and greater overall value. For IT professionals, this means spending less time managing existing infrastructure and more time adding value to the business while meeting strategic needs. For developers, this means greater productivity and easier access to advanced technologies directly from a familiar development environment. For information workers, this means being able to take advantage of new capabilities and access more information to seize new business opportunities without needing to learn new computing environments.

Nair said the new brand has been launched to demonstrate that Windows is the core, central, strategic platform for all its servers.

"With DSI, we aim to enhance the Windows platform and deliver a co-ordinated set of solutions that dramatically simplify and automate how businesses design, deploy and operate distributed systems. We will create those solutions through integrated innovation across the entire portfolio of Microsoft and partner products. This includes development tools, server applications, operating systems and management tools," says Nair.

"Reducing complexity and cost of operations continues to be one of our customers` biggest challenges. We believe that Windows Server System, the Dynamic System Initiative and our integrated innovation approach to software development, provide solutions to these challenges," concludes Nair.

Products under the Windows Server System brand include: Microsoft Project Server; SQL Server; Exchange Server; Office SharePoint Portal Server; Real-time Communications; Biz-talk Server; Commerce Server; Content Management Server; Host Integration Server; Internet Security and Acceleration Server; Systems Management Server; Microsoft Operations Manager and Application Centre.
