Microsoft looks to Samsung

centre, reports Telecom Paper.

The evaluation platform, which is available through the Microsoft Technology Centre, can be used immediately.

According to Data Center Dynamics, Microsoft Germany's infrastructure architect and green IT head, Frank Koch, says the company has managed to reduce power use in the virtualised data centre using the Samsung technology in these tests.

“With the innovative memory modules from Samsung, we do not only measure higher throughput and performance of our hyper-cloud solutions, but a lower power consumption of the involved server systems,” says Koch.

According to Samsung, its 30nm-class 2GB Green DDR3 chips have the highest DRAM performance level based on advanced processes, reaching 1.866Gbps at 1.35 volts.

Market Watch quotes Koch as saying: "The world notices a dramatic increase of energy usage in data centres with more and more people leveraging their IT and moving to a private cloud.”

"Our collaborative efforts with Microsoft are focused on expanding solutions with greater energy efficiency and IT investment savings for next-generation and current server systems, thus enabling more sustainable business practices, such as 'creating shared value' for customers on a grander scale," said Wanhoon Hong, executive VP of memory sales and marketing, Device Solutions, at Samsung Electronics.
