Microsoft, Polycom expand relationship

Polycom and Microsoft are deepening their strategic relationship to deliver one of the broadest and most powerful sets of voice and video solutions for unified communications and collaboration, reports FoxBusiness.

As part of Microsoft's vision to broaden the availability of Microsoft RoundTable, Polycom has licensed the right to distribute RoundTable, effective 13 April.

The product, renamed the Polycom CX5000 Unified Conference Station, will be available through Polycom and its extensive channel network.

Online content platform unveiled

Changhong Electric Company, China's second-biggest television maker, has released an online content platform for a specific series of its LCD and plasma TVs, according to ChinaKnowledge.

The company spent RMB150 million to build this platform, and its subsidiary, Changhong Information Technology, developed it and made licence agreements with content providers.

Lin Maoxiang, chairman of Changhong Multimedia Business, says the online content platform provided over 10 000 video programmes to its TV users.

Blu-ray up 20%

Netflix subscription fees are going up, at least for the Blu-ray crowd, according to VentureBeat.

The California-based movies-by-mail company is bumping up the cost of its Blu-ray rentals by 20%.

Jessie Becker, Netflix's VP of marketing, says the increase will replace the current pricing structure and affects all membership tiers as of 27 April. It means a monthly increase from $1 to $4 for the average $16.99 per month Netflix subscriber renting Blu-ray discs.
