Microsoft has released a messaging app that allows for "brief, snappy communications" between colleagues and syncs with Outlook accounts.
Even though there are a host of messaging apps available to smartphone users, co-workers mobile numbers are often not at hand and those messages are stored in different places.
"Send gives you the simple, quick text message-like experience while allowing you to reach all co-workers and have all of your communications in Outlook for reference later," the Outlook team explained in a blog post.
Send does not require users to exchange numbers, remember usernames or split conversations across platforms. The messages do not include subject lines, signatures and other email formalities.
Some examples of Send messages include:
Straight to the point: "Let's chat in 10"
Super urgent: "Don't send the presentation yet"
Simple back-and-forth conversations: "Are you in the Office today?" "No"
Send is specifically designed for these get-in get-out scenarios, when a user is not in the office and needs to communicate quickly.
"Our design principle for the app was to make conversations fast and fluid while keeping the people who are important at its core," explains the team.
The app also offers pre-written responses like "On my way" or "I'll get back to you", available in a few swipes.
Send only stores the emails started within the app, and not everything from a user's Outlook account.
Send is available on iOS in the US and Canada, and will be made more broadly available soon. More IT controls will be released with the next update.
