Enterprise software specialist and NetManage distributor, Dax Data, has unveiled an international agreement to bundle a multi-session 3270 emulator with Microsoft SNA Server as well as future host integration solutions from the Redmond-based software giant.
Dax Data MD, Jeremy Matthews, says a NetManage 3270 Terminal Emulator will ship with Microsoft`s future SNA Server code-named Babylon. "The terminal emulator offers 3270 access and can run multiple 3270 sessions on a Microsoft Babylon Server client," he says.
"Extending the reach of Microsoft`s SNA gateway with host access solutions offers a sensible method of gaining access to corporate information anytime, anywhere."
David Sieff, Developer Marketing, Microsoft SA, believes inclusion of the NetManage 3270 Terminal Emulator with Babylon provides a cost-effective tool to maximise the investment in legacy systems. "It will assist Microsoft customers to optimise Babylon deployment through provision of extended host access and application integration for eBusiness applications," he says.
"The combination of SNA Server and the NetManage 3270 Client Technology will revitalise existing systems and applications and give them a new lease on life. It will put businesses with large investments in `heavy iron`, who may be concerned about competitors leaving them behind in the technological race, on the fast track to e-business," he adds.
Sieff says the bundle helps to bridge the gap between old and new, opening up the Microsoft infrastructure platform to such customers. "In effect, it allows them to double the return on investment on legacy applications and systems - something that was virtually unthinkable a few short years ago."
The 3270 applet that will be bundled with all versions of future SNA Server product features a direct hotlink to NetManage`s web sites. "This allows customers rapid access to additional product information and enables an upgrade to a full-featured product, either NetManage`s ViewNow Mainframe 3270 or Rumba 3270 solutions," notes Matthews.
The former offers Windows 95/98/NT/2000 users an extensive set of features for the IBM mainframe, including robust emulation capabilities, printer support, and file transfer. It also includes seamless Windows integration and context-sensitive help to aid mainframe access for all users.
Its ViewNow 3270 Quick Connect component provides fast connections and supports both SNA and TCP/IP access protocols. ViewNow Mainframe also includes NetManage`s patented real-time support technology and is part of the company`s eN2000 eBusiness Framework.
Similarly, RUMBA for the Mainframe provides Windows users with a comprehensive IBM connection package with such features as bookmarks, LPR and LPD line printer utilities, and includes ODBC driver for Mainframe DB2 databases (RUMBA DRDA).
