MB Technologies subsidiary LAN Design, the networking and communication distribution company, has been appointed a Microsoft South Africa distributor with effect from 1 May 2000. LAN Design`s specialist experience as a networking distributor complements Microsoft`s existing distributors` areas of specialisation. This appointment is particularly relevant in response to market demand for Microsoft Windows 2000 as a platform of choice for the corporate network.
"Since September last year Microsoft has been looking for an additional distribution partner that understands the subtleties of software distribution. We are particularly pleased that, with LAN Design, their distribution expertise is complemented with a thorough understanding of the networking market," comments Maureen van Jaarsveldt, channel director at Microsoft South Africa. LAN Design`s considerable distribution experience includes products such as 3Com, APC, Computer Associates, D-Link, Ethercom, JSB Software, Novell, Palm, SMC, US Robotics, WRQ and Xircom.
Microsoft needs to ensure that its product range is easily and readily available to all members of the channel. "By appointing another distributor we keep the distribution channel competitive, ensure logistical efficiency, competitive prices and the right mix of channel programmes," continues van Jaarsveldt. "When you consider LAN Design`s focused and niche relationship with its resellers, as well as its reputation for excellent customer service, adding Microsoft to its offering will enable it to become a complete network solutions shop."
