MicroStrategy boosts Q3 operating income 21%

MicroStrategy has reported an increase of 9% in revenues for its third quarter, ended September 30, 2005. For the period the company`s revenues were $65,8 million, up 9% from $60,6 million in the third quarter of 2004.

Licence revenue for the third quarter of 2005 was $22,6 million, a decrease of 12% from last year`s $25,8 million for the third quarter. However, In the third quarter of 2004, 31% of licence revenue was attributable to two licence transactions each in excess of $3 million; the company had no licence transactions in excess of $3 million in the third quarter of 2005. Third-quarter 2005 income from operations was $22,9 million, or 35% of revenue, versus $18,8 million, or 31% of revenue, in the third quarter of 2004, a 21% increase. Net income for the third quarter of 2005 was $13,3 million.

"MicroStrategy continued to achieve strong operating leverage across all lines of business as its operating margin rose to 35% during the third quarter of 2005," says Charl Barnard, MicroStrategy product manager at local distributor Knowledge Integration Dynamics (KID). "Net cash generated from operations for the first nine months of 2005 increased 33% to $72,5 million, compared to $54,6 million for the first nine months of 2004. These results reflect the company`s continued success in meeting the needs of leading organisations worldwide for its highly sophisticated business intelligence technology."

For the nine-month period ended September 30, 2005, revenue was $191,2 million versus $159,6 million for the same period in 2004, a 20% increase. Licence revenue for the nine-month period was $68,7 million versus $62,9 million for the same period in 2004, a 9% increase. Income from operations for the nine-month period was $64,3 million, or 34% of revenue, versus $41,2 million, or 26% of revenue, for the same period in 004. Net income for the first nine months of 2005 was $45,9 million, or $2,91 per share on a diluted basis. Cash flow from operations for the first nine months of 2005 was $72.5 million, an increase of 33% on the $54.6 million for the same period in 2004.
