MicroStrategy's mobile () has been rated the best offering by a Dresner Advisory study for the second year in a row.

MicroStrategytook the top spot out of 25 product offerings in the widely followed 2012 Wisdom of Crowds Mobile BI Market Study by Dresner Advisory Services.

"We're in the midst of a profound shift towards mobile BI and mobile computing," said Howard Dresner, chief research officer, Dresner Advisory Services, and author of the 2012 Wisdom of Crowds Mobile BI Market Study. "The study rated MicroStrategy the top mobile BI offering, with the highest overall score and the highest customer user rating for mobile BI among all 25 vendors rated."

The findings of the study showed that the number of people who think mobile BI is critical has increased by nearly 10% to 61% since 2010. Findings revealed that mobile BI is the third-highest priority for mobile applications. In addition, the study also found a strong preference for native apps, and that organisations have aggressive implementation plans through 2015, with more than half expecting deployment above 41% penetration within 36 months' time.

According to MicroStrategy, its mobile BI platform goes beyond standard BI to become a full mobile app development platform and it gives organisations the opportunity to build a wide variety of essential mobile apps. The rating comes as MicroStrategy announced the general availability of its latest BI software platform, MicroStrategy 9.3.

"There's a powerful opportunity to take what's unique and compelling about mobile apps - embedded with workflows, multimedia, transactions and business intelligence - and bring it to life in an easy, fast and flexible platform," says Paul Zolfaghari, president of MicroStrategy.

"Mobile BI has become mainstream. In fact, for some, it's the only way they consume business intelligence content," Dresner concludes. "In 2012, its impact is now both clear and profound."
