During the event, Agnelo Fernandes from MicroWorld will give an insight into what technology is being used to combat spam and how software developers such as MicroWorld are dealing with the spam problem. Camsoft, a local MicroWorld partner, will also host an information security workshop during the event. The aim of this workshop is to inform audiences wanting to know more about MicroWorld`s eScan and MailScan range of products.

eScan is the world`s first real-time anti-virus, content security and TCP-IP traffic scanning software package that uses MWTI`s revolutionary and proprietary MicroWorld WinSock Layer (MWL) technology, which scans and checks Internet traffic and content on real-time basis including e-mails, attachment files and Web pages. This new concept has changed the way in which content security threats are managed in the knowledge world.
MWL analyses Internet traffic and potential threats before they reach computer systems, as opposed to other solutions that deal with the threat after they have infected computer systems. The checks are made for viruses, restricted words and phrases as well as for embedded objects like Java applets, etc. eScan incorporates content security plug-ins at the gateway level to protect customers. eScan 2003 new product features include attachment filters, parental control, pop-up ad blocker, e-mail virus scanner, Internet eraser, spam killer and even more powerful anti-virus protection.

MailScan acts like a transparent gateway between the corporate mail server and the Internet. All mails must pass through MailScan, ensuring maximum security in delivering messages. Being a gateway, all mails pass through MailScan, which scans e-mails for viruses before letting them through the gateway. The product provides content control checks on the e-mail body, and offers spam control by checking validity of the mail sender and the IP-Addresses.
MailScan has its own inbuilt anti-virus, eScan, which is integrated with the software in DLL format. All incoming and outgoing messages are scanned for abusive words and/or phrases, which are pre-defined by the Security Policy Administrator of MailScan. If such words occur, warning messages can optionally be sent to the administrator, the sender and the recipient. Global Content Control Policies (pre-defined words and phrases) are dynamically updated from the Internet at regular intervals, along with normal anti-virus and policy updates.
