MigrationWare set its sights on solving the legacy problems of some of Europe`s leading corporates at the recent COBOL Future 2006 expo in the Netherlands. Following hard on the heels of the successful debut of its Easytrieve solution in the US, MigrationWare exhibited its migration solutions to systems analysts and IT directors at the international forum held in Amsterdam`s World Trade Centre.
At the third annual COBOL Future exhibition, legacy, integration, transformation and modernisation were the key themes. The ongoing development of legacy systems, combining COBOL and Java, .NET and WebSphere and the outsourcing of COBOL were among the important issues aired.
Worldwide, millions of applications have been developed with COBOL, one of the computer industry`s best established development tools. New developments, among them solutions developed by MigrationWare, continue to enable COBOL to meet all modern demands. The exhibition attracted some 200 delegates.
MigrationWare provides solutions to the migration of a wide variety of mainframe legacy technologies, and many of these were on display. Included among them was the new multifaceted Easytrieve solution which combines MigrationWare`s expertise in migration tool development and systems integration with contributions by Micro Focus and another partner, Canam Software. MigrationWare is a Micro Focus Development Partner, a member of the Micro Focus Migrations and Transformation Consortium and is a member of the Mainframe Migration Alliance.
Through MigrationWare`s core ability to integrate and build translators, the sophisticated solution was built to allow for the automatic migration of the Easytrieve reporting language to a contemporary Wintel and Lintel platforms.
MigrationWare director Joao de Oliveira said there was keen interest in finding the best solutions for legacy problems. "We offer a variety of products and services that provide solutions to technology-driven migration projects. Through the application of a mature methodology and specialist technology, critical business assets are migrated by means of standard solutions that may be customised for specific client requirements."
At COBOL Future 2006 business development managers from a number of top European companies spoke of issues concerning the future of COBOL and leveraging enterprise applications. Companies participating included Sogeti Netherlands, Ordina, Cordares Holding NV, IBM Systems, and Micro Focus Netherlands.
"Migration is a business decision, not a technical decision," said Ronald Karten of MigrationWare (Netherlands). "By redeploying existing IT assets rather than replacing them, MigrationWare can add critical value to a company`s balance sheet. We help modernise systems, making them more agile and cost-effective."
MigrationWare`s clients include international banks and insurance companies including Standard Bank, Absa, Liberty Life, Nedbank, Old Mutual, Sanlam and Alexander Forbes. LogicaCMG in the UK, Daimler Chrysler in South Africa and Sogeti in the Netherlands are among some of its major clients.
"Understanding the issues that the partner and customer face is our key differentiator," said De Oliveira. "We can provide expert analysis and potential solutions to these issues. By working with partners we can focus on our core area of expertise allowing our partners to do the same."
