Mimecast, the leading supplier of cloud-based email archiving, continuity and security for Microsoft Exchange and Office 365, has been recognised as the leader in hosted email security and management solutions according to research group BackChannel.
According to the bi-annual Hosted E-mail Security report, Mimecast has claimed 40% or more market share across key vertical sectors, including public administration, finance and transport and utilities.
This new market share data reflects a surge in growth for Mimecast's South African operation. The company has achieved 97% client growth year-on-year and has increased its user base by 65%.
“We have had market share leadership in cloud archiving for some time; security has always been a very important part of our services mix here in South Africa, so it's encouraging to see that we've established a leadership position in the Cloud E-mail Security category as well,” says Garth Wittles, managing director at Mimecast South Africa.
“Mimecast is an important ally for EOH. As a leader in the cloud services arena, it has always been part of our strategy to partner with Mimecast,” explains Dominic Oettl, Director, Cloud Based Services, at EOH. “This success confirms we have made the right decision.”
BackChannel electronically surveyed more than 3 600 organisations in South Africa in order to discover the actual market share among competing vendors for hosted e-mail security and management services.
Steve Barnett, co-founder of BackChannel, added: “When we first started tracking their activities in 2006, Mimecast was a new kid on the block; but this year, they won the 2011 CRN 'Security Vendor of the Year' in the UK, and our latest reports show them taking control of the South African market and growing at a terrific pace worldwide.”
Globally, Mimecast has reported revenues for the nine months to 31 December 2011 up almost 50% on the previous year, and expects to pass 5 000 customers and annual revenue of $50 million in the current quarter. The company added 260 000 users during the nine-month period, and passed the one million user milestone in July 2011.
