With the advent of e-mail becoming the communications life-blood for many organisations, e-mail management has become a critical component of any company's recovery and retention strategy, since expensive litigation for failure to properly handle this activity is no longer an option that can be considered.
In the light of the above, Mimecast, a technology innovator in e-mail, has consolidated its products into two basic service offerings, Mimecast 36 and Mimecast Multi.
Each of the two service offerings includes advanced real-time reputation managed SMTP that includes an advanced anti-spam solution and sophisticated virus, phishing and malware protection; instant e-mail continuity; disaster recovery and failover (always on e-mail); TLS encryption; AD Sync content policy controls; attachment rules and performance graphs, ie the majority of the functionality contained within the base platform and the Smart Perimeter, e-mail archiving (Message Warehouse) and marketing advantage modules.
The difference is, the first service offering includes 36 days e-mail retention, while the second is for an unlimited retention period.
The latter, therefore, is an attractive, unique and unprecedented capability including the full disaster-recovery many users are seeking, especially in the face of potential Eskom power shortages and other outages from, for example, the work being undertaken for the Gautrain.
In addition, each package includes a flat user-per-year cost, subject to a fair use policy. The alternative to the above seems to be an expensive DIY route that is very likely to produce an inferior solution, judging from numerous experiences gleaned across the globe.
"With our updated global and local infrastructure now in place, which is based on a redundant architecture that includes replicated data centres, coupled with the strategic role that e-mails have within organisations, we have now consolidated the bulk of our various products into two simple service offerings," commented Garth Wittles, MD, Mimecast SA.
"As compliance, in its broadest sense, is still a top priority for most executives, we believe this move will create very attractive options for our potential clients and facilitate a more straightforward decision process regarding the aspect of e-mail management and all its implications."
