Commercial software developer Mincom Africa has renewed its contract with Mining Software Services (MSS), a fully owned subsidiary of SRK, a mining consulting firm, for a further two years to help drive business growth across the continent.
MSS is a reseller of Mincom's MineScape software and has been for 15 years, says Paul Collins, operations manager at Mincom Africa.
"The contract renewal comes about as a result of continued high demand for the partnership's solutions from SA, as well increasing demand from mining operations across the rest of the continent."
Collins says the MineScape solution provides a range of functions like 3D modelling of underground ore bodies, resource estimation, mine design, groundwater analysis, production scheduling and environmental services.
African feasibility
MineScape is an integrated suite of solutions designed for use in open cut and underground mining operations for both coal and metalliferous deposits. It delivers extensive geological modelling and mine design functionality, making it a particularly attractive solution for mining organisations in Africa, Collins explains.
According to a company press release, the business partnership gives MSS the rights to sell and offer support for Mincom's MineScape software to the whole African territory. Mincom will have access to the resources at MSS, to offer what it terms "bedrock-to-boardroom" support to their clients.
With all the exploration activities and feasibility studies on the go across Africa, this product set has a great applicability, Collins says.
Mincom has a customer base is in the SADC region, he says. The company sees the market extending further north and has invitations from global customers to accompany them into locations such as the DRC, he adds.
Mincom's MineScape software aims to achieve optimal efficiency in mine planning operations, lowering costs and maximising mining operations to save time and money.
