Minolta extends laser printer rights to dealers and distributors

Johannesburg, 06 Nov 2000

Principal importer of Minolta laser printers, Minolco (Pty) Ltd, has established a new division, Minolta Distribution Channel, to drive the sale of Minolta laser printers through the lucrative computer dealership channel.

The division, established in September, has Alex Harper, a man with more than a decade of experience in IT distribution, at the helm. It aims to capitalise on the high percentage of printers sold to the South African market through the channel.

As Harper points out, recent research indicates that as much as 90% of printer sales locally are concluded by computer dealers, PC stores and outlets, and systems integrators.

"We firmly believe that in the Minolta family of black and white and colour laser printers, we have the product range - and service levels - to exceed the offerings of our competitors. Now, with the establishment of Minolta Distribution Channel, we are confident we will soon have the correct structures in place to grow our market share in this key area," he says.

He adds that the new division will also drive the sale - via the channel - of MinoltaScan, a locally designed document management system from Minolco that promises to change the way businesses file, archive, retrieve and share documentation.

Harper and his team of sales executives are in the process of interviewing and short-listing the flurry of candidates who have applied to acquire dealership or distribution rights on Minolta laser printers and enjoy the myriad benefits associated with doing business directly with the importer of Minolta in South Africa.

These include free deliveries, free product training, qualified helpdesk support, professional assistance with corporate customers, nationwide service and support centres, and access to a professional, seamless ordering system that makes doing business that much easier.
