Minolta`s DiALTA Di750 meets growing print-on-demand needs

Johannesburg, 02 Feb 2001

The demand for faster, better and more productive copiers has prompted Minolta to launch the new top-of-the-range DiALTA Di750 document delivery system.

Minolta digital copier product manager, Paul Symonds, says digital technology has shortened the life span of today`s printed documents. "As a result, run lengths are shorter, updates are more frequent, and every job needs to be done instantly, especially in the area of corporate reprographic departments and print-for-pay services. In other words, it has become a `print-on-demand` world," he says.

The Minolta Di750 was produced with this in mind, and is a heavy duty 75 page-per-minute digital copier that can be upgraded - with the addition of the Pi7500 print controller, using Fiery technology - to support printing capabilities for high volume production-oriented workflow.

The printing option in digital technology not only increases productivity, but is more cost effective as the user produces printed pages for the cost of a copy. In addition, two Di750s can run in tandem as a 150-page-per-minute copier/printer for increased productivity to rival long-established high-speed production systems for a fraction of the cost.

The Di750`s standard 64MB memory can store up to 330 pages. By adding optional 64MB or 128MB DIMMS, the copier memory can be upgraded to 512MB, yielding up to 2 640 pages for the most demanding high volume jobs. The optional Hard Disk Drive (HDD) kit provides additional functionality such as scanning and storing jobs, storing and copying jobs simultaneously or printing out previously stored jobs.

Its rugged construction and feature-rich design supports its maximum recommended monthly volume of 500 000 copies. The unit`s design has less plastic and more metal and includes a welded tubular steel frame, metal rails, paper drawers and heavy-duty rollers.

To ensure that jobs are completed without interruption, the Di750 can hold a paper supply of 6 150 sheets, from 50gsm to 200gsm, and from five different paper sources. There is an optional cover inserter, which enables off-line finishing by automatically inserting colour or pre-printed stock for front and back covers. It also inserts colour copies or tabs into copying jobs to create a finished document on-line. In addition, the finishing features include an optional 8-position stapling centre, folding and saddle stitching to create professionally finished documents.

"With these features, the Di750 can handle a range of documents such as business proposals, sales analyses and presentations, bulletins, reports, RFPs, training manuals and booklets," says Symonds.

Other features include booklet mode, chapter insertion, transparency interleave, reserve job, combination mode (2-in-1, 4-in-1, 8-in-1), image rotation, book copy, mixed originals, repeat image, frame / fold erasure, proof copy, interrupt mode and job memory. With the multi-job function, up to 99 new jobs can be scanned in while others are still being printed.

The user can select to copy at 400dpi or 600dpi, and in addition to normal mode, it has a high-mode for 64 levels of grayscale or very high mode for 256 levels of grayscale. The Di750 also includes text and photo enhancement modes.

"Minolta`s digital copiers have already been well received by the market in the past few years, and the arrival of the Di750 in February 2001 means Minolta will have a top-of-the-range digital copier to meet the production output capabilities of the most demanding companies," says Symonds.
