Mint Velvet appoints Assist
Recently opened UK women's wear retailer Mint Velvet has selected Retail Assist, according to OnWindows.
This is to provide a managed solution comprising the Merret merchandising and warehousing product, Triquestra's Infinity POS, and a complete IT support service. The solution combines all the required hardware, software and services in a single package that integrates with Mint Velvet's EPOS and Web site.
Retail Assist provided a hosted data centre, as well as guiding the retailer through the implementation of Infinity POS and its own Merret supply chain solution. Triquestra's Infinity POS, which is developed on the Microsoft platform, was deployed on Toshiba Tec hardware.
Best Buy employs store opening solution
Best Buy has contracted Wincor Nixdorf to implement its new store opening solution to open six new shops in China, says Inside Retailing.
Wincor Nixdorf completed the project in four months to ensure Best Buy's stores were operational in time for the respective official store openings and will continue to provide ongoing support services.
POS systems were installed at the six stores, with Wincor Nixdorf providing the project management for the wireless network and IP telephony system implementation.
NFC phones enable transactions
Over the next four years, according to market analyst firm Juniper Research, one in every six mobile subscribers in the world will be using near field communication (NFC) devices and NFC-enabled monetary transactions will exceed $110 billion, states TMCnet.
“Payments and retail transactions, such as coupons, would combine to transform the phone into not only a payment tool but also a retail tool in addition to its many current functions,” said the research firm in its latest report on NFC devices.
The research firm said NFC adoption will be driven initially by transport ticketing services, followed by retail payment services.
