MIP beats Media XI to take 3-1 series lead

Johannesburg, 10 Oct 2007

MIP Holdings beat a Media XI by six runs in their recent annual cricket match at a scorching Dimension Data Oval. The result means MIP now have a 3-1 series lead over the Media XI in their annual matches.

In a tense 20-over-a-side affair, played partly in line with Action Cricket rules, each batsman cost his side three runs when he was dismissed. Each batting pair was allowed four overs, and each bowler just two overs.

MIP batted first and secured 134 - not quite scoring by the standards of the recent T20 world championships, but highlighted by a thunderous 47 from Yuresh Ramjee of MIP customer Coris Capital, including five sixes. He was named Man of the Match.

In response, the Media XI team was slow to get going and had their score undermined by the frequent loss of wickets. The upshot was that they fell just six runs short, despite some frantic hitting out towards the end by ITWeb`s Paul Furber.

"These matches have become a regular for both our company and our clients, and our friends in the media," says Richard Firth, CEO and chairman of MIP. "They have become such a draw-card that we are set to make them bi-annual, giving the Media XI a chance early next year to redeem themselves and possibly regain some honour."

"For most of the players, a game like this represents a chance to hark back, briefly, to younger times, and to roll out creaky joints," says Frank Heydenrych, captain of the losing team and MD of Predictive Communications. "We thank MIP for their hospitality, and look forward to our revenge."
