Mitel Networks, a leading provider of IP communications, recently hosted SIPit13, a global Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) interoperability testing event in Ottawa, Canada.
SIPit13 had a record-breaking attendance with more than 60 participating companies and over 30 first-time attendees. The event provided a critical, semi-annual, industry benchmark in the drive to make SIP the de facto standard for real-time Internet communication services. SIP is an open, Internet-genuine protocol for establishing and managing multi-party, mixed-media sessions over converged networks.
SIPit13 represents a turning point in SIP development, implementation and interoperability within the vendor community offering SIP-based solutions. Vendors conducted interoperability tests to identify scenarios where SIP-based solutions did not work together effectively. Subsequent troubleshooting and re-testing was performed, allowing vendors to further evolve SIP`s stability and reliability across multi-vendor solutions and infrastructures.
Vendors displayed and tested their SIP-based solutions over HP Procurve switches and routers from Hewlett-Packard and a 100MB unencumbered Internet link from Telus. Additional infrastructure was provided by Mitel Networks, Pingtel, Ubiquity and Convedia.
