Mitel Networks has successfully implemented a multi-site, enterprise IP communications solution for the UK`s National Health Service (NHS). The NHS serves the healthcare needs of the UK and is the largest organisation in Europe, employing over one million people.
The solution has been implemented by a leading UK systems integrator in conjunction with healthcare communications specialist, the Wandsworth Group. The contract will deliver approximately 55 NHS Trust sites across the UK with a bedside communication solution that incorporates television, interactive movies, audio books, radio, telephone, messaging and high-speed Internet access.
The solution improves the patient experience by enabling them to access Tele-Call, a highly intuitive, touch-screen IP-based entertainment and information system. The Tele-Call system also has the ability to connect to the existing hospital IT network to provide clinical access at the bedside for electronic patient records, digital images and administrative information. The technology underlying the Tele-Call voice services is based on Mitel Networks Your Assistant, an award-winning PC-based communications management application.

The Tele-Call Patient Power Project forms a major part of the British government`s plans to reform the NHS. The technology used is Mitel Networks` 3300 Integrated Communications Platform (ICP) combined with Your Assistant. Your Assistant has been embedded into Wandsworth`s existing Tele-Call bedside console via the 3300 ICP to provide an IP communications solution that delivers superior voice capabilities in a highly intuitive manner.
In addition to patient services, the system also provides operational improvements by enabling hospital staff to easily access bed management and discharge information, patient records and menu ordering.
