Mitel Networks delivers range of IP phones, desktop devices

Johannesburg, 25 Apr 2002

Mitel Networks has introduced its Mitel Networks 5001 and 5005 IP Phones. The 5001 and 5005 IP Phones address a new segment of the market, meeting a glaring need for low cost desktop IP phones.

With these new additions, the Mitel Networks IP desktop portfolio becomes the broadest in the industry, with devices and peripherals to meet all levels of business. With a focus on the user experience, Mitel Networks is the first company to deliver a full suite of powerful IP desktop devices and peripherals.

The Mitel Networks IP desktop portfolio works transparently across the 3100 and 3300 Integrated Communications Platforms, a range of platforms designed for the smallest business to the largest multinational enterprise. The addition of these new IP phones provides unparalleled choice and flexibility to the user.

"Mitel Networks recognises that businesses adopting IP solutions are looking for choice, flexibility, usability, and value," says Andy Bull, director for Mitel Networks South Africa. "This announcement delivers on our commitment to provide a complete family of IP phones and devices with very broad capabilities, enabling the power of convergence to address diverse business needs," says Bull.

The IP desktop

At the high end, Mitel Networks delivers IP appliances that simplify the user experience for the business professional, enabling new and more effective ways of communicating and sharing information. Mitel Networks 5140 IP Appliance is the first in a series of next-generation desktop devices. Through a large-screen display, users benefit from a myriad of online services and real-time applications such as integrated HTML Web browsing, visual voicemail and PDA integration. The 5140 IP Appliance also comes equipped with hi-fidelity audio, dual-port 10/100 IP switch, and integrated power options.

At the mid-level, Mitel Networks delivers a pair of desktop IP phones that provide fast and easy access to features and applications. Dual port, with a multi-line display, Mitel Networks 5010 and 5020 IP Phones are designed to meet the changing needs of users at the desktop. With the addition of an IrDA Module, users can take advantage of tight integration with productivity devices such as the PDA. The 5010 and 5020 IP Phones also benefit from 12- and 48-button programmable key modules that provide the end-user with additional custom features.

One area largely ignored in today`s IP environment is the operators console. The Mitel Networks 5550 IP console addresses this need through providing an easy-to-use PC-based operators console. Ergonomic in design, the 5550 IP Console has 12 programmable feature keys and is easily configured for fast and effective call handling.

Rounding out the portfolio, Mitel Networks 5001 and 5005 IP Phones provide cost effective IP telephony for businesses. The 5001 and 5005 IP Phones offer a range of basic telephony features such as hold, transfer, conference and single line display. With key system functionality, the 5001 and 5005 provide ideal entry level IP Phones at a never before seen price point.

"Adding new value at the desktop presents a compelling benefit to businesses when considering adoption of a converged solution," said Bull. "Mitel Networks continues to enhance the price/performance of its IP Telephony solutions, which puts them in a strong position to capitalise on this burgeoning market opportunity."

The IP conference room

Mitel Networks 5305 Office Conference Unit and 5310 Boardroom Conference Unit usher in a new age of audio conferencing in the enterprise. Through an innovative new technology called beamforming, Mitel Networks IP conference units virtually eliminate ambient room noise and side bar conversations, making it much easier to listen to the speaker, while offering crystal clear audio quality.

Easily connecting to an IP Phone, Mitel Networks conference units provide a breakthrough level of audio-conferencing capabilities in the office and meeting room. Additionally, through the recent announcement of the Mitel Networks 5700 Voice First Application, IP video can be added with "the push of a button", allowing users to have full multimedia capabilities in the conference room.

Extending the benefits of IP to the TDM world, Mitel Networks has also announced plans for an analogue conference unit. The Mitel Networks 5303 Conference Unit uses the same powerful technology to deliver high-level audio conferencing in a traditional analogue environment.
