Mitel Networks simplifies access, connectivity for remote workers

Mitel Networks 6010 Teleworker Solution enables small businesses and enterprises to enjoy "Plug and Work" teleworking
Johannesburg, 10 Apr 2003

Mitel Networks has launched a new teleworking solution that can be set up in less than five minutes. Mitel Networks 6010 Teleworker Solution uses standard 5020 IP phones, enabling the remote employee to access the same features and functionality as if in the office. The 6010 Teleworker Solution is compatible with the Mitel Networks 3100 and 3300 Integrated Communications Platforms.

The launch comes in the wake of new research from the Office of National Statistics, which shows that the number of teleworkers in the UK has exceeded two million.

"The number of teleworkers is raising exponentially in SA as well," says Mitel Networks director for SA, Andy Bull.

Solutions such as the 6010 Teleworker Solution look set to capitalise on the growing trend towards remote and mobile working.

"Employers today can see the advantages to be gained from teleworking; such as reduced overheads, the ability to retain skilled staff and increased employee productivity," says Bull.

"The emergence of teleworking is an enormous shift in the dynamics of the workforce, with small businesses and large enterprises wanting to allow people to work from remote locations. The launch of the 6010 Teleworker Solution will mean that businesses across the UK no longer have to devote huge quantities of time and money managing an expanding remote workforce."

"Instead a teleworker can now simply 'plug and work` as they gain instant access to company databases, email, voicemail, diary and contacts. In addition, the solution provides the potential opportunity to extend telecommunications capabilities to clients, consultants and distributed IP-based business partners," concludes Bull.

The 6010 Teleworker solution, an application of the Mitel Networks 6000 Managed Application Server, uses secure Real-Time Protocol encryption for voice privacy. In addition, remote data connections use industry-standard Virtual Private Network technology for security and seamless integration with Windows and Macintosh desktops and laptops. Configuring the teleworker phone takes only minutes and can be performed by a system administrator with minimal training. Once configured, the phone can be plugged into any broadband connection for secure access to the corporate network.
