Mitel provides unlimited mobility for corridor and road warriors

Extends "anywhere, anytime" communications for in-the-moment business effectiveness
Johannesburg, 14 Sep 2006

The ability to collaborate, make the right decisions and serve customers "in the moment" has been made simpler with new and enhanced enterprise mobility solutions from Mitel.

The new solution sets a new standard of flexibility and security for mobile workers in the office, on the road, at home or in the car without sacrificing the productivity and collaboration benefits of familiar features of enterprise communications.

"We have now reached the inflection point at which businesses are looking beyond the considerable cost savings presented by IP-based communications, to the productivity benefits, improved customer interaction and other business process improvements it can offer," said Andy Bull, director for Mitel South Africa.

"The convergence of fixed and mobile communications is one such area for which we have found great customer interest for solutions that provide workers with advanced IP-based features from their mobile devices and remote locations," said Bull.

Mitel`s second-generation of mobility solutions make communications simpler for everyone with seamless, simple and secure mobility without the burdens and costs associated with competitors` VPN-based solutions. The Mitel Mobility Solutions portfolio offers end-to-end, fully integrated mobility that makes it easier for the mobile worker to stay in touch with fellow employees, customers and others in his community of interest through:

* Embedded, VPN-independent, 128 bit AES encrypted voice and data traffic over Mitel Managed Applications Server.
* Feature-rich softphones, conferencing and collaboration tools for road warriors.
* Plug and work Teleworking for business continuity.
* Full-featured, device agnostic mobility integration for the corridor warrior.
* Low-cost audio conferencing collaboration tools with recording.

"With an aging workforce and a newer generation of worker that increasingly wants to strike a better work-life balance, employers are beginning to look at technology alternatives that will help them attract and retain top talent," said Nora Freedman, IP telephony analyst at IDC.

"Solutions designed to provide the ability to retain and attract high quality workers with teleworking tools that facilitate and encourage information-sharing and team-working, as well as expedite decision-making, will increasingly become a differentiator for top employers that employ knowledge workers."

Easier, better collaboration, conferencing with Mitel Teleworker and Your Assistant

To address the anticipated rise in the number of telecommuters and home-based workers, Mitel has enhanced the ease-of-use and integration of its Teleworker solution with collaboration and unified communications applications. Plugged into any broadband connection, the Mitel Teleworker solution now provides support for the Mitel Your Assistant Softphone without the need for a VPN connection. Additionally, it provides the flexibility of a feature rich softphone, combined with powerful enterprise features such as presence and availability, secure Instant Messaging (IM) and file transfer, video, data sharing and full collaboration over the enterprise-grade Mitel 3300 IP Communications Platform (ICP) and Mitel 200 ICP for smaller business environments.

"Mitel`s Your Assistant allows us to cost-effectively compete at the business speeds we need," said Jim Goodlett, CTO at Savannah, Georgia-based Morris Technology, a technology consulting and services firm that provides critical infrastructure services to the media industry, including print, broadcast, and multimedia.

"We can also work faster, smarter and more efficiently with employees across all the properties we service in addition to cutting our travel costs extensively and scale our ability to work with any company."

Large and small forward-looking organisations planning their response to potential pandemic-related worker absenteeism are increasingly looking to teleworking as part of their pandemic-specific emergency plans to maintain their business operations. Public health organisations estimate as many as one in three workers will miss work due to infection, taking care of children or family members or simply refusing to go to work for fear of contracting the virus in heavily populated office towers.

Mitel Quick Conference

To address the growing number of companies that are adopting cost-saving in-house, on-premise conferencing, Mitel has added Quick Conference to its portfolio of collaboration tools. Targeted at small or medium-sized businesses, Quick Conference is simple, flexible and scales up to 32 participants, or four conference calls each with eight participants. Connection to the Mitel 3300 IP Communications Platform (ICP) is via a SIP interface. User access to the system is via a telephone user interface (TUI) or via a Web-based graphical user interface (GUI).

Mitel Mobile Extension (ME)

Mitel`s second generation Mobile Extension solution enhances mobile workforce accessibility and productivity by extending the availability of PBX features and functionality to any mobile, home or wireless device. Released earlier this year, the Mitel Mobile Extension enterprise mobility solution now includes Calling Line ID to the mobile or remote device, call transfer, hold and conference codes, and the ability to establish a Quick Conference from any mobile device over the corporate network.

To reduce roaming and long distance charges, Mobile Extension can also be used in conjunction with enterprise hot-desking to seamlessly move phone calls from cell to desk phone in any enterprise location. The user simply logs in to the nearest Mitel IP Phone and takes control of the phone making it their extension number complete with their user profile.

Mitel Managed Application Server

Mitel Mobility Solutions are enabled by the Mitel Managed Application Server, an award-winning, multifunction network server solution that seamlessly blends the wired and wireless worlds by extending rich telephony features such as voice mail, conferencing and speech recognition to the mobile device of the user`s choice, regardless of service provider.

Designed for single-site and branch-based organisations with five to 500 users, the Managed Application Server provides everything a small or medium-sized enterprise needs to use the Internet more effectively, including a secure firewall, centralised file management, comprehensive company e-mail system with built-in virus protection, and sophisticated remote-access capabilities. The entire solution can be set up quickly and managed remotely, making it perfect for organisations with limited or no on-site IT expertise.

The Managed Application Server is also ideal for large enterprises that need to roll out targeted applications - such as the Mitel Teleworker Solution - quickly and easily on a platform that is open, highly scalable and future-proof.
