Dimension Data has successfully secured a contract to supply a complete broadband solution to 20 000 flats in Malm"o, Sweden.
Municipally owned property company MKB Fastighets AB singled out Dimension Data as the solution provider of choice from a dozen bidders in a deal valued at approximately USD 4.6 million.
MKB is one of Sweden`s largest property companies, and plans to offer all its tenants provider-independent broadband Internet connectivity. In fulfilment of this goal, the company is deploying a fibre-optic network, in parallel with copper for cable TV, to all its properties, creating the basis for true broadband.
"Quality was our leading criteria when selecting the solution to be installed for us and our tenants," says Sven Brandrup, project manager for MKB`s broadband solution. "Dimension Data`s solution has been chosen as it is built on leading and well established technologies. With this technology, we will imminently be able to offer our tenants a fast and reliable broadband network, enabling us to create new revenue streams and markets."
Dimension Data`s MetroE solution comprises an Ethernet link to each residence for high-speed connectivity, with an operations management system to take care of the interactivity between tenants, the network provider and various service providers. The future-proof design of the system is geared to cater for even more complex services, as they arise.
Dimension Data`s Mahmud Noormohamed, Global CEO of the company`s SPS division, explains: "Metro Ethernet presents multiple, distinct opportunities for service providers to identify new services to offer within the broadband space, helping them to create new markets and new revenue streams. MKB chose Dimension Data to help it make money from this technology because of our position as the first true end-to-end solution supplier in this space. As a world-leading network integrator we have the resources and knowledge to professionally fulfil large projects of this nature."
In addition to Dimension Data`s consulting and integration services, the project includes products and technologies from Cisco Systems and Imagine Broadband. The parties worked with MKB to build an Equal Access infrastructure, which will help provide MKB`s tenants with 10 Mbit/s fibre-based Ethernet broadband for high-speed connectivity and the ability to select services from multiple providers.
Due to its proven services and solutions, Dimension Data has been entrusted with a number of large and varied projects in Sweden during the last year. Organisations including the National Swedish Debt Office in Stockholm, the University Hospital in Gothenburg and the municipality of J"onk"oping have made it the solution provider of choice to address their diverse technology requirements.
