Samsung's new 52X Multi Read CD-ROM drive, SC-152, delivers random access times of 80 mm/sec with a transfer rate of 7.800KB/sec, and is available from Multimedia Warehouse, a division of the Siltek IT Supply Chain Group.

"This super-fast internal CD-ROM is compatible with any CD-ROM and CD-R/RW, uses an embedded EIDE/ATAPI Interface for easy installation, and can be mounted horizontally or vertically," says Solly Schoultz, product manager at Multimedia Warehouse.

"The SC-152 features a 128KB buffer memory to reduce hops and skips and also uses a CAV (constant angular velocity) technology, where the disk spins at one fixed speed and the data is read faster on the outer tracks and slower on the inner tracks

"In general, access rates are better on CAV types than constant linear velocity (CLV) due to the constant RPM reducing head settling time," says Schoultz.

The SC-150 also ships with adopted acoustic-noise reduction and an automatic ball balancing system to reduce operational noise in the workplace to a minimum and supports all major operating systems, including Windows 95/98/NT as well as Linux.
