IXIA, a large repairer of cellular phones for MTN, Cell C, Vodacom, Virgin Mobile and other cellular providers, is in liquidation.
The company, which has been in business for four years, announced a provisional liquidation to its business partners two weeks ago.
IXIA claimed to be the most accredited independent service centre locally, with seven major brands onboard and service level agreements with Cell C, MTN, Vodacom, Autopage and a number of other dealers. The company employs 210 staff, and processed about 13 500 handset repairs monthly.
Nokia head of care Matthew Channing says the company is waiting for a liquidator to be appointed, to see what can be done in terms of retrieving phones left at IXIA for repairs.
Customers arriving at IXIA's workshop, in Midrand, Johannesburg, are being turned away, without their phones, and told the company is in liquidation and cannot return the handsets at present.
Christian Von Besser, a manager at IXIA, could not comment immediately as to why the company is liquidating, and how many customers may be affected. He did say he would be available for comment at a later stage.
Market speculation is that thousands of customers will be left in the lurch, having handed their phones in for repairs. Calls at the IXIA call centre are going unanswered.
