As the demand for mobile devices continues to move forward at an increasingly rapid pace, the ability for the network to support this growth is essential.

So said Graham Melville, director of product marketing for NetScaler Product Group, in an interview with ITWeb on the sidelines of the Citrix Synergy 2014 Conference in Anaheim, Los Angeles.

He is of the view that, as Web applications and server applications get bigger and bigger, enterprises are finding it tough to come to terms with the ever increasing volumes of traffic coming to their networks.

According to Melville, companies are finding it difficult to balance the traffic coming in to the different servers that they have in the back-end.

This has been exacerbated by the rise in denial of service attacks as well as the rise in the intensive tasks that servers have to perform. Web has also become an issue especially with the rise of mobile devices, he noted.

To meet these challenges, Citrix unveiled the NetScaler MobileStream Technology, which it says improves mobile network and application performance along with network visibility while tightening security for both the enterprise and the end-user.

Melville noted that with the explosion of mobile devices in business and the relentless growth of consumerisation, IT has started to explicitly embrace a mobile-first agenda.

According to Citrix, industry analysts point out that 77% of enterprises state that providing support for employees inside and outside the office is a strategic network priority.

The vendor says NetScaler MobileStream improves security and mobility support. It believes that in today's mobile environment, the performance of mobile services directly impacts productivity.

"NetScaler MobileStream improves productivity by reducing application delivery times to mobile devices," said Melville.

"It intelligently optimises the amount of data to be downloaded, with multi-layer optimisation of content streaming that maximises mobile page downloads and rendering."

Citrix also notes that the solution also boosts mobile performance by eliminating the impact of sporadic connectivity caused by legacy communication technologies and Web site designs. NetScaler MobileStream leverages wireless and cellular connectivity with dual network mode technology, it adds.

It claims that this results in mobile apps loading and running five times faster, enabling people to be much more productive.
