Mobility is the next top technology enterprise investment

According to industry forecasts, there will be 200 million mobile workers globally by the end of 2013.

Johannesburg, 23 Sep 2010

At a recent industry-leading mobility conference, Andrew Fosbrook, Group MD of ProScan Mobility, leaders in total mobile solutions, outlined five macro trends driving the adoption of mobile solutions in enterprises.

“Leading industry research shows that enterprises are increasingly feeling the need to provide connectivity to their mobile workforce in order to streamline operations and increase efficiencies. Over seven in 10 organisations are equipping mobile workers with mobile computing and communication devices.

Fosbrook continued to expand on the growth of enterprise mobility globally. "According to VDC Research, mobility is listed as one of the top five technologies' investments by CIOs that is strategic to their organisations.

“Enterprises are looking for growth and innovation in order to acquire more customers and deliver better service. Visibility in the supply chain is key to agility and with pervasive wireless technology; there is an increasing culture of connected mobility and focus on productivity and customer service.

Organisations are extending their enterprise to the mobile worker as mobile solutions are the new 'front door' to the business, converting transactions into interactions."

In line with the growth of enterprise mobility worldwide, ProScan Mobility has positioned itself to deliver total mobile solutions and automated identification (AutoID) to the southern African market.

“As many companies are finding out, data collection is only one element of a comprehensive solution. The ability to manage the collected data and act on it in real-time can make all the difference to the responsiveness of an organisation,” said Fosbrook.

ProScan Mobility, part of the ProScan Group, specialises in developing, optimising, and implementing total mobile computing and AutoID solutions incorporating technologies, such as mobile computers, RFID, voice directed work technology, bar code scanners and printers.

“With expertise in integration and implementation, we deliver a complete line of mobile computing and AutoID supply chain products and software solutions, across a diverse range of industries and applications,” said Fosbrook.

“Tackling a total mobile solution in an enterprise is complex task,” he added, “and can effectively be divided into five key areas to ensure that every aspect of the project is considered.”

“ProScan's Five Step Mobility Life cycle approach is systematic and ensures the successful roll-out of the solution, and a maximum return on investment. These include defining the solution and selecting the devices; development and integration; deployment; monitoring and management and post-implementation maintenance.”
