A clear understanding of the trends that are driving mobile in the enterprise is key to determining where a mobility strategy fits within an organisation.
On this note, Accenture, in partnership with ITWeb, is conducting an online Mobility Strategy survey.
Mobility is now pervasive and is maturing rapidly in the corporate environment. This survey explores the trends driving this maturation and identifies investments made in mobile strategies.
Tielman Botha, head of mobility services at Accenture, says: "The fundamental motivation of the survey is to compare South African organisations' mobility strategies with the global trends."
The last time CIOs saw a groundswell this huge was back in the late 90s and was called 'the Web'. In a recently completed Accenture survey of more than 400 global IT executives, 73% said mobility will impact their businesses as much as, or more than, the Web did.
Commenting on this perception, Botha adds: "The main aim of this local survey is so that Accenture is able to localise the results from the global mobility survey in order for the local market to be better understood."
As companies make the move to integrate their mobility strategies into their businesses, they understand that - especially for a new, and in some areas, immature, technology - some common challenges persist. When asked in the Accenture CIO 2013 Global Mobility Survey to name the barriers that kept them from addressing or implementing mobile priorities, IT executives cited several concerns, among them being data security, especially regarding data on devices that have not been issued by corporate IT. Bring your own device (BYOD) topped the list, cited by 45% of respondents.
It is not news that mobility is affecting how business works. We are coming to terms with the fact that employees can now exchange data with corporate servers wherever they are, and interact with customers and prospects, too.
