Masedi Molosiwa is stepping down as Cape IT Initiative (CITI) executive director as he prepares to join the South African Post Office (SAPO) next year.
Molosiwa, who has spent three years at the non-profit development agency, says he will join the Post Office as a marketing group executive on 16 January.
He says his appointment at SAPO will give him an opportunity to have an impact on a national level. "It would have been silly had I not agreed to join the Post Office team as this will give me an opportunity to grow and add value to the Post Office.
"I decided to join SAPO because they are passionate about transformation and have the drive and mission to become one of the top 10 postal service providers in the world."
Molosiwa says his departure has raised mixed feelings within CITI, but that generally most of his colleagues are supportive.
CITI chairman Raven Naidoo says Molosiwa`s contribution to CITI has been significant and the organisation is sad to see him go.
The CITI board, which is made up of 12 people, representing the Western Cape ICT industry from both the public and private sectors, is exploring a number of potential replacements for Molosiwa.
"The position calls for a social entrepreneur - someone who is passionate about the development of people and who has insight into how to take CITI and the ICT sector to a new level of success," says Naidoo.
Molosiwa graduated with a Bachelor of Architectural Studies from the University of Cape Town. He joined advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather, Rightford Searle-Tripp & Makin in 1997 and progressed to the level of account manager.
He later joined M-Web as marketing services manager, and then joined Old Mutual as the brand manager of a technology based start-up and subsequently became the product manager of the business.
Molosiwa was a finalist for the IT Personality of the Year 2005.
