The festive season cheer tends to influence our spending patterns more than normal, so, to keep a check on your finances, use First National Bank`s (FNB`s) inContact.
The service was launched in 2002 following the increased need for customers to monitor their cash flow on a daily basis without the added cost of regular balance enquiries. Janet Johnston, COO of FNB Core Banking Solutions, comments, "inContact provides the ideal solution as it is offered free of charge to customers and offers real time communication of your financial transactions."
"The service will be particularly useful at this time of the year, when people are likely to be travelling during the holidays and doing their Christmas shopping. It is also active for transactions that take place overseas."
inContact alerts FNB customers via SMS and e-mail of all transactions that have taken place on their FNB accounts. Alerts are sent for transactions of R100 or more and this value can be changed according to the customer`s preference. Customers can also select to receive notifications 24/7 or only during daylight hours.
The role of inContact also extends into the area of fraud prevention, adds Johnston. "Many cases of credit and debit card fraud are detected and stopped through inContact every month. Customers inform us of suspicious transactions due to a notification they received and FNB then takes the appropriate action. Fraud is an age old practice - the service has greatly assisted us in outsmarting the fraudsters."
"FNB has over 2.3 million inContact subscribers and sends an average of 23 million SMS per month, at a speed of up to 150 SMSes per second. An average of up to 90 000 new registrations take place every month. Apart from personal messages inContact is one of the biggest generators of SMS in SA on the cellular networks.
"In 2004, inContact was recognised as a key innovation in the banking world by the US-based World Council on Financial Competition," concludes Johnston.
To register for inContact, FNB customers can call 0860 11 22 44 or visit any FNB branch. FNB Internet Banking customers can also register online at www.fnb.co.za.
